Many people ask, “Can I hire a handyman to repair my roof in Florida?”

The answer is NO! Only a fully licensed and insured Roofing Contractor can do any sort of roofing in Florida including small repairs.

Florida has many visitors every year and many do handyman work when they are here, or people relocate after a major storm and set up shop here in Florida, or even worked for a roofing company and decided to do some “side gigs” leading to unlicensed and unqualified work. Firstly, they are not familiar with our extreme weather and of course our Florida laws and codes and may not be skilled in repairing roofs. Consequently causing more damage then before they started. Secondly, the same procedure for roofing that works up North does not work here in Florida, in effect causes a lot of headaches and needless expense for the homeowner. In fact, it is illegal to hire an unlicensed roofing contractor to do any roofing at all, even small repairs. Meanwhile creating problems and very likely resulting in heavy fines, even possible jail time for both the homeowner and the handyman. Thirdly, something to consider is the extreme danger roofing presents. Due to this, roofers are required to carry very expensive insurances because of common injury and high risk for you and your home. It is for your protection!! For example, if you hire an unlicensed roofer and he falls off the roof, you are responsible for all his medical bills, not to mention possible lawsuit, in this case YOU could loose EVERYTHING! It’s just not worth it. Also if the job is done improperly, there is no recourse if it rains and floods inside your home. For these reasons, is it worth saving a few dollars for these risks?
